Materials

Here’s what you’ll need:

Calligraphy kit
For the table number:
A piece of wood that has been primed with black chalk paint (Maybelle has cut hers to 5” x 7”), plus an extra piece for testing paint mixture
Water
Small container for mixing
White acrylic paint
Black eraser
For the chalkboard menu:
A piece of wood that has been primed with black chalk paint (Maybelle has cut hers to 5” x 7”), plus an extra piece for testing chalk mediums
Chalk pencils or chalk markers
Assorted brushes (Maybelle uses a liner brush, a flat brush, and a separate small brush for mixing)
Pencil and pencil sharpener
For custom-mixed color on paper:
Paint swatch of your choice for reference
Container for mixing (use a container with an airtight lid if you plan on keeping your gouache color mixture for up to a few months)
Label for your color mixture (optional)
Assorted gouache
Gum Arabic
Dropper
Final paper for artwork, as well as a scrap piece to test your gouache mixture (Maybelle uses Kraft paper for this project)
Water (use distilled water if you plan on keeping your gouache color mixture for up to a few months)
